We're presenting some of our top technical research at this year's event.

Here’s an exciting piece of news: This week, the Association of Anti-Virus Asia Researchers (AVAR) is celebrating their 25th annual security conference in Singapore.

This year, the conference’s topic is “Cybersecurity Counter Punch”, and the program features two tracks fully packed with excellent talks on some of the latest security research about threats. A portion of the event’s talks focus on the Asia-Pacific region.

Our team is presenting some hot topics at this year’s event

Not only are both Avast and NortonLifeLock members of AVAR – on top of that, we’re going to be presenting some of our top technical research at the event!

Tune into the following three sessions from some of our researchers:

  • Luigino Camastra and Igor Morgenstern are talking about Operation Dragon Castling, an advanced persistent threat (APT) group using supply chain attacks against East Asian betting companies exploiting a previously unknown vulnerability in WPS Office’ updater to deliver malware to target Microsoft Windows systems.
  • Robert Xiang Wang and Imran Khan will be presenting Taohuawu, a rootkit targeting unofficial online game players used mainly by Chinese speaking users.
  • Adolf Streda and Luigino Camastra will be showcasing a case study titled “Hitching a ride with Mustang Panda” in which they will describe a massive attack targeting high-profile Myanmar government officials, NGOs, and opposition leaders
