Last month at stackArmor, we announced the establishment of our AI Risk Management Center of Excellence (CoE), comprised of executives with strong operational backgrounds and experience driving large-scale modernization efforts in Federal agencies.

We’re pleased to share that Suzette Kent, former Federal Chief Information Officer for the United States, is joining the stackArmor CoE to advise and provide ongoing counsel to stackArmor and its stakeholders.

“Harnessing the power of AI for delivery of government mission and services will be transformational,” said Suzette Kent. “But, it is complicated to align all the emerging policy, risk frameworks, approval processes and existing policy and law.  I am thrilled to be included in the COE because I have seen the work of the stackArmor team to drill down to details and find a path to connect all the pieces.  We can only get to use of operational AI at scale by working through these details.  I hope the output of the COE will deliver tools that agencies can use to move faster and to confidently scale AI capabilities”

Ms. Kent has an extensive private and public sector background. As the Federal CIO, Ms. Kent was responsible for government-wide IT policies and spending, and also chaired the Federal CIO Council and the Technology Modernization Fund Board.  She also brings over 30 years of experience in industry roles, as a partner at EY And Accenture, Managing Director at JPMorgan, and today leads her own technology consiulting business working with both public and private sector clients globally.

Having spent decades in prominent industry and government roles, the diverse and influential perspectives of stackArmor’s CoE members are available to government executives at little-to-no cost. AI adoption is a complicated journey with a unique set of challenges. By making the CoE broadly accessible, we believe we can help enable and promote the secure adoption of AI in all organizations across the public and private sectors.

Members of our CoE include:

  • Maria Roat, former Deputy Federal CIO
  • Alan Thomas, former commissioner of the GSA Federal Acquisition Service
  • Richard Spires, former U.S. Department of Homeland Security CIO
  • Teresa Carlson, transformational industry executive with over 25 years of leadership
  • Suzette Kent, former U.S. Federal CIO

The Biden administration is working on an Executive Order on AI that will likely issue mandates for safe implementation, and OMB recently issued a memo detailing ten new AI-focused requirements for agencies. These include naming a new chief AI officer, developing a publicly released AI strategy and convening an AI governance.

Organizations face numerous obstacles in implementing AI, including a need for an actionable framework to assess and manage risk, an evolving understanding of risk controls and a shortage of skilled resources, tools and methods to implement a safe solution.

By extending cyber risk management programs like FedRAMP, FISMA/RMF, DOD CC SRG, and StateRAMP, stackArmor provides a ready-to-use blueprint consisting of risk categories, security controls and a governance model that includes independent assessments, continuous monitoring and application of technical controls.
