Low-code/no-code platforms have become increasingly popular. They provide a cost-effective and quick way to develop applications tailored to fit business requirements at a lower cost, rather than developing them from scratch or using off-the-shelf software. TJC Group developers have put low-code/no-code platforms SAP Build Apps and Microsoft Power Apps to the test, building a Sales Order Display app for one of our cloud applications, Enterprise Legacy System Applications (ELSA). Look out for the demo videos below that uncover the results of this experiment!

Testing SAP BUILD Apps with ELSA by TJC

SAP Build Apps is SAP’s offering in the low-code/no-code space. With just a few hours of work, TJC Group developers created a Sales Order Display app for ELSA by TJC using SAP Build Apps without writing a single line of code. By using the drag-and-drop menu, they could quickly and seamlessly build the application with the provided components in SAP BUILD. After that, the data is accessed through the ELSA REST API.

Watch this video to get a glimpse of the Sales Order Display app for ELSA solution:

It’s worth noting that the data displayed on the Sales Order Display app can be stored either on ELSA or the SAP S4/HANA system, as shown in the video above.

Testing Microsoft PowerApps with ELSA by TJC

Microsoft PowerApps is Microsoft’s low-code no-code platform to develop mobile and web apps for any business need without requiring previous technical knowledge.

Our experienced developers from the ELSA team have undertaken the same exercise – creating a Sales Order Display app with MS PowerApps. Similarly, it took only a couple of hours to create the app using the drag-and-drop menu.

Access SAP legacy data with ELSA

Enterprise Legacy System Applications is SAP-native application built and certified on SAP BTP to decommission SAP and non-SAP legacy systems. ELSA that ensures all legacy data is stored securely and can be re-accessed both before and after migrating to SAP S/4HANA. Migrating data to S/4HANA does not guarantee that existing data remains complete or unchanged. But ELSA does. This application protects and future-proofs legacy data – like archived tax records – and makes it readily accessible from either S/4HANA and from a UI5 web app. The tax archive created within ELSA complies with future tax and audit requirements and all international data privacy laws.

The Sales Order Display application created with SAP Build Apps and Microsoft Power Apps serves as an example to visualise SAP Legacy Data at the blink of an eye when needed for business needs or tax and audit reasons.

Low-Code/No-Code Use Scenarios

Picture this scenario: You’re on the move and urgently need to access specific sales order details. Simply reach for your mobile phone or tablet, launch the TJC Group Sales Order display app, and input the sales order number. Within moments, all the pertinent information will be at your fingertips. Notably, any data that was initially concealed in ELSA will remain secure in the Sales Order display application.

There are numerous other instances where SAP Build App or Microsoft PowerApps can prove invaluable for crafting concise applications within SAP Systems. For instance, you can create visual representations of invoices or delivery notes, view purchase orders, generate various reports, and more.

Here’s a general guideline to keep in mind:

  • Low-Code is perfect for intricate applications that demand some custom coding but can leverage pre-built components. It’s frequently employed in business process automation, CRM systems, and beyond.
  • No-Code is most suitable for uncomplicated applications like data dashboards, straightforward mobile apps, and fundamental workflow automation.

Conclusion

Today, it’s crucial to stay ahead of the latest technological advancements, particularly in the ERP arena, where innovations are happening every month, if not every quarter. Low-code/no-code platforms are one of the many advancements from SAP and other ERP Systems, such as SAP Datasphere, SAP AI Core, SAP AI Launchpad, and SAP BTP, to name a few. programmer.

We have tested Microsoft and SAP low-code and no-code platforms first-hand, and we can say it has saved us time to develop a simple application like the Sales Order Display for ELSA by TJC. Our application for legacy system decommissioning, ELSA, has been built in a way that can be used by both SAP and non-SAP users, even those unfamiliar with SAP environments.

Finally, Low-code solutions make software development easy, even for those with little to no coding experience. However, these platforms do not replace the need to have talented developers in-house with years of experience in software development.
