Building on the success of the Africa Hack2Build earlier this year, we hosted yet another event for African partner companies from November 8th to 15th. The event was a collaborative effort between the SAP Co-Innovation Lab, BTP Solutions Architects, and Product Management teams, aimed to provide our partners with comprehensive enablement and technical solution support throughout the hack week, ensuring the seamless success of their solution prototype builds.
Seven partner teams from South Africa and East Africa, worked hard over the course of the 7 days to build compelling solution prototypes using SAP Build across a broad range of themes from hospital patient care, logistics proof of delivery (POD) apps to wine cellar management.

The hack week not only served as a collaborative platform for solution development but also fostered a vibrant exchange of ideas and expertise among the participants.

The participants shared positive sentiments about the initiative and the overall support they received during the event:

The Winners

As the event reached its culmination, the partner teams had the opportunity to showcase their solutions to a panel of judges consisting of senior executives and solution experts from the Partner Solution Adoption team, and SAP BUILD Product Management. The following partner teams emerged as the top three:

Winner – EPI-USE Labs in collaboration with G3G: “TuskTrack”

TuskTrack is a driver-orientated delivery management app. Delivery drivers use the app to submit proof-of-delivery alongside possible deviations from the expected items of that delivery as well as a signature from the recipient. A virtual handshake so to speak. Drivers scan their deliveries and indicate any change from what the waybill says should be delivered. The app allows drivers to attach descriptions and photographic evidence of the type of deviation (loss, breakage, theft, shipping errors). The recipient then submits their signature alongside automated delivery location info and a rating of the delivery at their own discretion.

As a side note: The elephant themed logo and name TuskTrack for the app is a nod to EPI-USE’s non-profit organization – ERP (Elephants, Rhinos and People).

Runner Up 1 – Converge Solutions “Greenline”

Patient safety is paramount and increasingly difficult to maintain considering a global shortage of nursing staff. Digital innovation is the only way to achieve improved patient outcomes without a linear increase in nursing staff. One common challenge in the context of patient safety is the accurate matching of patients with medications, blood samples and milk (in the case of infants). This can be achieved through the use of scanning technologies to match products and patients, eliminating human error and loss of life. Greenline, developed using SAP BTP, addresses these challenges effectively and simplistically.

Runner Up 2 – Dimension Data “Streamline Business Scope Identification”

Dimension Data’s low-code/no-code accelerator, named “Streamline Business Scope Identification” represents a creative and innovative way of accelerating the pre-sales phase in both public and private cloud environments.  It will improve accuracy in scoping client functional processes, which are difficult and time consuming to determine from business users in the pre-sales phase. Built on the Business Technology Platform (BTP) and integrating with SAP Digital Discovery Assessment and SAP Signavio, this accelerator reduces costly consulting time and resources required to engage with the client. By automating the gathering of client functional processes, and ensuring the accuracy of data, our solution will be valuable to all SAP partners seeking similar efficiencies in their pre-sale’s environment.

Going forward

The aim of Hack2Build is to take solutions beyond the hackathon, for partners to productize and commercialize their solutions. The Co-Innovation Lab will be working with these partners to help them finalize their build and commercialize their solutions.

All participating partners received digital badges on credly.com for successfully completing the Hackathon and showcasing skills in business, design and technology, through a working prototype built on SAP Business Technology Platform.

We would like to extend a special thanks to our Executives, Experts and Colleagues. This would not have been possible without you.
