Sophisticated bots targeting your business are evolving rapidly every day. A big reason why is that fraudsters now use AI-powered tools. You need to protect your websites, mobile apps, and APIs by making sure your security solutions keep pace. Because of the diverse needs of many complex organizations, security professionals may create custom rules to enhance their bot protections—and the last thing they need is to have to fiddle with a lot of vendor “nerd knobs”.
Enter DataDome Companion, a new ChatGPT application available in the ChatGPT Marketplace, offering users a powerful new solution to streamline and enhance bot management. Its standout feature? The ability to create custom rules with unparalleled speed and ease.
DataDome’s multi-layered ML-based engine detects and blocks automated bots without human intervention, and analyzes over 5 trillion signals per day to update threat models in real time. Not all customers want or need to use custom rules—but for those who do, this new capability puts users in more control. DataDome Companion allows them to easily tailor their bot management strategies to particular needs, like authorizing their own bot or implementing specific business logic.
DataDome is proud to be the first bot management vendor to offer a ChatGPT application on the ChatGPT Marketplace. This is an example of how we aspire to innovate quickly to anticipate and meet new customer needs.
The ChatGPT Marketplace is a new ecosystem that enables developers to create plugins for ChatGPT. These provide additional features, use cases, and interactions that build on ChatGPT’s capabilities. Users can browse and use these plugins to customize their ChatGPT experience for their own requirements—like cybersecurity. And the experience mimics the revolutionary ease of use and fast responses in synthesizing information.
DataDome created the ChatGPT application by training the ChatGPT dataset on custom rules for our DataDome solution as well as detailed instructions to shape responses. Our Threat Research experts helped to create real test cases using actual customer scenarios for custom rules to validate the quality and completeness of the DataDome Companion answers. We also checked answers for artificial or trick prompts as well as for unclear wording.
Note that DataDome Companion has zero access to any customer’s data in any way, so your privacy is always fully maintained. And since the knowledge base for the custom rules syntax guideline is public information, there is no ability to reverse engineer the application to gain insights into DataDome’s bot protection.
Getting started is a breeze. Simply browse and find DataDome Companion from the ChatGPT Marketplace. Note that you need to have a paid plan—either “Plus” or “Enterprise”—to access GPT-4 and the Marketplace apps.
Navigate the user-friendly interface to create custom rules for your DataDome solution tailored to your bot management objectives. If you’ve used ChatGPT, this should be a familiar exercise!
Enhance responses with more prompt information to get more specificity in your custom rules. For example, certain endpoint names/URLs may be particular to your organization, such as the use of /login versus /myaccount for login endpoints. But customers can add more data to the prompt to get what they need.
This is a big milestone—and just the start of something much bigger. DataDome will continue to enhance DataDome Companion based on customer feedback. And we will be incorporating ChatGPT queries directly into our industry-leading (and highly-praised) threat dashboard in the near-term. For many security practitioners, these capabilities will very quickly shift from “never-heard-of” to “must-have” and DataDome will continue to lead the way.
