About Me

I am a results-driven technology leader with over 30 years of experience in driving connectivity and innovation across the Pacific Islands. My passion lies in leveraging emerging technologies to empower communities and bridging the digital divide. As the former CEO of Tonga Cable Limited, I led the deployment of affordable high-speed internet, and as CTO of PowerPlay, I helped develop a blockchain solution for renewable energy. My roles have included expanding satellite internet coverage as Regional, Corporate Development Director at Kacific Broadband Satellites Group and enhancing digital skills through USAID's Digital Connectivity Project. I am now officially retired from corporate life but I remain dedicated to the mission of "Leaving No One Behind" through broadband access. When I'm not building technology, you will find me blogging, mentoring individuals of all ages, advocating for progressive policies, and exploring partnerships that utilize technology responsibly to uplift communities.

1. What do you currently do and what’s your favorite part about it?

I am currently an independent consultant as a GIS Specialist. My favorite part about it is my new found freedom to be a Web3 Bounty Writer on HackerNoon.

2. How did you get started with your Tech Career?

My Dad was suspended from the civil service and I had leave school to find a job, and it so just happened to be a “Computer Operator” job in Tech, way back in 1992.

3. If Utopia were a color what color do you think it’d be and why?

Golden, like the Sun. Because it is the Epitome of life and so is the color of Bitcoin :)

4. If everything about HackerNoon changed drastically, what is one detail you’d like to keep exactly the same?  OR What’s your favorite thing to do with HackerNoon and why?

I would like to keep the freedom to join HackerNoon and write as is currently. I would like to see HackerNoon as a platform to peer-review publications because I have been searching tirelessly for an academic or a professional journal to publish my work and to be peer reviewed accordingly, but to no avail due to publishing costs. So I published my Whitepaper here, tons of thanks to HackerNoon.

5. Tell us more about the things you write/make/manage/build!

Although I write a lot about Web3, Blockchain, Bitcoin, Smart Contracts, Decentralized Oracles, Cryptography, Cryptocurrency and Satellite Broadband Connectivity, my passion for making beautiful maps is still my bread and butter. As a Full-Stack Developer and GIS practitioner for over 20+ years, I have always been passionate about helping others by deriving analysis on scenarios that most people do not think about. Moreover, I am also advocating the use of Starlink and building capacity to experiment with Solo Bitcoin Mining in the Pacific Islands Region.

6. What’s your favorite thing about the internet?

Freedom

7. It’s an apocalypse of ‘walking dead’ proportions and you can only own a singular piece of technology, what would it be?

Morse code

8. What is your least favorite thing about the internet?

Censorship

9. If you were given $10 million to invest in something today what would you invest in and why?

Bitcoin, because it is the future and it is “Digital Capital”.

10. What’s something you’re currently learning or excited to learn?

I am currently learning how to be a smart contract security researcher with “Cyfrin Updraft” https://updraft.cyfrin.io/courses/security. I am excited to learn smart contract auditing and the best practices for writing secure and optimized protocols. Explore fuzzing, invariant testing, and formal verification to identify bugs and protect Web3 protocols. I am also excited about experimenting with Solo Bitcoin Mining in the Pacific Islands Region.

11. Would you rather travel 10 years into the past or 10 years into the future? Give reasons for your answer.

The past is gone, the future is still in the making. I would rather be here and now to do what I need to do and to make sure I am content with what I would like to see 10 years from today.

12. How do you feel about AI?

AI is here to stay. We are totally blessed to using AI. It is the future.
