This week, we’ll be taking a look at how many dead side projects the average developer has. Plus, we’ll also try to predict the future and see which companies are in for a rough time.

Every developer has a folder full of half-built apps, empty repos with a killer README, and that one idea that was definitely going to change everything. Be honest.

It’s interesting that the option with the highest votes comes from people believing that their side projects aren’t truly dead but merely on pause. 25% of people admitted that they have started dozens of side projects but have completed zero of them.

18% of people have no time to work on side projects, as their day jobs take up a lot of their time. 17% of people have done the impossible and have actually shipped a couple of side projects, but they admit that they, too, have many dead side projects. Finally, 14% are built differently because they always finish what they start.

Side projects are fun to do, but it appears that they’re very difficult to finish. However, just because it wasn’t completed doesn’t mean that it was a failure. If a developer starts a side project and learns from it, that should count as a success. Especially when they take what they learn and use it for their next project.

Which companies announce bankruptcy before 2027?

Just like with side projects, sometimes entire companies don’t work out. There are some companies that aren’t doing so well right now, and the Polymarket community believes they might be looking at bankruptcy before the start of next year.

According to the Polymarket community, there’s a 50% chance that Workhorse will be facing bankruptcy before 2026 ends. There’s a 33% chance of Beyond Meat going bankrupt, and Lucid has a 31% chance.

How many companies will go bankrupt this year?

Although the Kalshi community is not speculating on which companies will go bankrupt soon, they are speculating on how many it will be. According to them, there’s an 83% chance that over 750 companies will go bankrupt this year. Then, there’s a 63% chance of over 800 companies going bankrupt. Finally, there’s a 50% chance that over 850 companies will go bankrupt before the end of the year.

There’s been a lot of tech layoffs recently, and if over 750 companies go bankrupt, there will be a lot more. Let’s hope it doesn’t happen.
